What Is A Shared Journey Along Route 66?

A Shared Journey Along Route 66 is a community-driven travel experience built around connection, exploration, and shared moments on one of America’s most iconic highways.

During the Route 66 Centennial and America 250, we’re traveling portions of Route 66 and meeting up with others along the way, in towns, at festivals, and at events that celebrate the history, culture, and spirit of the Mother Road. This isn’t a single event or a rigid itinerary. It’s an open, flexible journey that unfolds across the road itself.

At its core, this is about people. People who love to travel. People who love the road. And people who know that the best part of any journey is often who you meet along the way.

What Are We Doing?

We’re showing up, across Route 66, and creating opportunities for travelers to connect.

That might look like:

  • Meeting up at a Route 66 festival or community event

  • Crossing paths at an iconic roadside stop

  • Gathering informally in a town for a shared moment

  • Following along digitally through photos, stories, and updates

There’s no convoy, no caravan, and no requirement to travel together full-time. Some people may join for a single event. Others may overlap for a few days or a stretch of the road. Many will simply follow along, engage online, or plan to meet up when it fits their route.

The journey is intentionally flexible, because the road itself is.

Who Can Join?

Anyone who feels called to explore Route 66.

This journey is for:

  • RVers (full-time, part-time, or first-timers)

  • Motorcyclists and road trippers

  • Tent campers, motel lovers, and everyone in between

  • Solo travelers, couples, friends, and families

  • People traveling the route, and people dreaming about it

There’s no “right” way to travel Route 66, and there’s no one way to be part of this journey. If you’re on the road, or thinking about it, you belong here.

How Do You Get Involved?

Getting involved is simple and low-pressure.

The first step is to express your interest. When you do, you’ll be added to a special mailing list where we’ll share:

  • Upcoming stops and events

  • Opportunities to meet up along the route

  • Stories and highlights from the journey

  • Ways to participate, in person or from afar

There’s no obligation, no commitment to the full route, and no requirement to travel a certain way. Join when it makes sense. Stay as long as it feels right.

Why A Shared Journey?

Because travel doesn’t have to be lonely.
Because history is better experienced together.
Some moments, like the Route 66 Centennial and America 250, are meant to be shared.

Whether you join us for a day, a weekend, a stretch of road, or simply follow along, A Shared Journey Along Route 66 is an invitation to explore, connect, and be part of something bigger, together.
